You can come stay with us during any season. Each one is has its own uniqueness. During our winter months you might be lucky enough to catch one of our rare snowfalls. If you do, most times it’s melted by noon. Just enough time to enjoy throwing a few snowballs for the pups to chase!
This time of year it’s less crowded and the vistas are more open. The Carolina blue winter sky’s are rivaled by no other.
Our night sky’s are spectacular, as the forest has opened up it’s crown to showcase the moon, stars, meteor showers and the Milky Way on a dark velvety backdrop. It’s hard to beat a hot tub on a cool winters night!

Some of our local ski slopes will usually be making snow for some downhill ski fun in Sapphire Valley. We’ve even seen the waterfalls freeze up at DuPont State Forest, making a magical wonderland.
Spring time brings with it warmer temps and longer days. Enjoy North Carolina’s mountain reverse fall color and beautiful wildflowers. Color unfolds from March to June with a sequence of trout lilies and violets, trillium and lady slippers, and azaleas, mountain laurel and rhododendron. Our diverse climate houses many different species to behold during a day of hiking on trails of Western North Caroling. DogWoods Retreat is bathed in the color of wild mountain laurel in the later part of spring!

Not to be out done by the wild flowers our spectacular reverse fall foliage on the budding trees is spectacular as well! The mountain sides start with the barest color on the tree tops to an explosion of red, pink, yellow and shades of various greens in a matter of days.
And you won’t want to miss the annual White Squirrel Festival held in Brevard every year over Memorial Day weekend! 3 days of free and fabulous music kicks off the beginning of summer time in the mountains of Transylvania county.
Summertime…….oh those lazy days! Long days, warmer temps, but not too warm because you are in the mountains. You can cool off in the spray from one of our mighty waterfalls. DuPont State Forest with it’s miles of dog friendly hiking trails, lies just a short drive from the cabins at DogWoods Retreat.
