Loose Leash Walking

Did you know that we actually teach our dogs to pull! When they start to pull we reward the behavior by allowing them to go forward. Sometimes we excuse the behavior saying “if he just gets to see the person or dog he will quit pulling.” Problem is this rewards the behavior and leads to more pulling. Instead, when the dog starts to pull don’t reward the behavior by stopping and waiting until the dog softens on the end of the leash and looks back to check in with you.

Our Beautiful Hardwoods!

Enjoying the glorious unfolding of spring in the mountains. Nan likes to term it a “reverse fall” because of the jewel tones the trees start with which then turn into the wonderful shades of green that we enjoy all summer long!

Wild Azaleas, Rhododendrons & Mountain Laurels coming soon!!

Soon our mountain laurels will start blooming and last well into May! Our DogWoods Retreat will be ablaze with them and also the beautiful wild azaleas and rhododendrons.   Don’t miss out!  Book your stay with DogWoods Retreat soon.

Our wild dogwoods are in bloom and the domesticated pink ones in town.

Wonderful work by John, Trip, Barbara & Kai!

John and Trip did some excellent work during their stay with us!  John aspires to become a dog trainer with Trip as a therapy dog.  With their continued good work we believe they will reach both their goals.  We really enjoyed working with you and seeing the changes.  Now that’s some Bully love!

We made changes in the routine that worked well for Barbara personally and helped establish a better connection with Kai.  She looks forward to possibly some agility in the future.  Two beautiful souls!

We hope to see you all again soon!
